Get in touch

Pierra grows vegetables for a living and grows curious about food systems for fun; though most days it's hard to tell which job is which. Part farmer, part storyteller, she spends her time turning soil and supply chains into stories about who actually grows our food, why they do it, and what it costs them along the way. She's especially drawn to the women behind that work.

Pierra is a third-generation farmer. She is a fellow of the African Food Fellowship's Food Systems Leadership Program and the Fellowship on Sustainable Development, focusing on leadership, design thinking, team dynamics, and movement building. She studied project planning, coordination, and ethics at the Kenya Institute of Management, with a minor in management. Her work has appeared in The Continent, POLITICO Europe, Mail & Guardian, Monthly Review Online, Science for the People Magazine, SourceMaterial, Talk Africa, and South Asian Avant-Garde.

Stage 2: Implementation

African Food Stories is a collaborative multimedia project that moves past the plate to examine the farms, markets, and policies shaping who eats, who doesn't, and why. We feature stories of food system reshapers with and without the fellowship to document the impact they are making.

Desired system change

We are creating a living directory of African food-systems doers. It is kind of a cheat sheet for newcomers, so good ideas can skip the queue and get implemented faster.
